Our Solution:
The noises came from inside of the garage door opener itself, so we knew this called for surgery. After checking the driveline, power cord, and control inputs just to make sure the issue was all internal, we opened the opener! Three small engine parts needed replacement; it looked like one gear was defective, which caused damage to the belt wheel near it. The manufacturer covered the opener repair bill.
